Information – Hanmer Springs Hot Springs / Pools
Hanmer Springs – the real New Zealand – 90 minutes north of Christchurch.
The Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve has established a range of practical environmental projects such as native landscaping and a $50,000 replacement programme for the Reserve’s 100 year old redwood trees.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the environment the Thermal Reserve has embarked on a 20 year programme to re-establish the vitality of the Redwood trees. This planting programme will ensure that in the years to come there will always be a stand of these magnificent trees in the centre of Hanmer Springs.
Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve has increased effective use of thermal water by 29%. In 2001, the Thermal Reserve was a finalist and highly commended award winner in the EECA (energy efficiency and conservation authority) for new renewable energy through geothermal heat recovery.
Green Globe 21 is also a significant focus for the Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve, providing environmental guidelines and benchmarks adopted by the operation. The Thermal Reserve is currently undertaking an extensive research project into the health of the thermal water supply and ensuring effective heat extraction from the natural resource.
