The named of the road leading to the Rainbow skifield could soon be officially changed to Rainbow Rd.
Councillors on the Marlborough District Council assets and services committee voted to change the name from its official title of Wairau-Hanmer Springs Hydro Rd so that the skifield could be given a Rapid number.
The change will be subject to consultation with iwi and other organisations.
Councillor David Dew said it had been colloquially known as Rainbow Rd for years.
Council engineering officer Erica Hobbs said if emergency services received a call, the likelihood was that the name Rainbow Rd would be used.
Changing the name and issuing a Rapid identification number would make it easier for an emergency crew to respond, she said.
Hanmer Springs will be home to the Wallabies for four days during the Rugby World Cup.
